Current Project - Children's Book Cover
I have always loved children's books and working as a supply teacher, one of my favourite things to do is read to the class (whilst admiring the pictures and analysing the design!).
I have chosen to redesign a classic story here. I drew a cute and simple cartoon of the owl and cat as the focal point, inspired slightly by psychedelic 60s illustrations (which I feel compliments the nonsensical rhyme). I wanted to use block colours then add texture by including clipping masks with images of real feathers, fur and stars. I like the juxtaposition of this technique. I chose to keep the sea the same as the sky to add to the magical feel that the boat is floating among the moon and stars. I like that the moon is hugging the title.
This is a self-initiated project for practice and is still a work in progress as I want to draw a mini owl and cat dancing on the sand for the back cover!
